ABOUT

1000 Voices facilitates interviews, encounters, and relations between lives in struggle around the planet. Our methodology recognizes that differences characterized by temporality, context, and lived experience are just as vast as those characterized by distance.

We believe that to translate must always be to translate a life in its context, not only to translate the meaning behind a collection of words; we seek to understand and inhabit lived lives where they are.

We hope to be changed by each of our publications, and to change those who we speak with. We hope that in doing so we can break the frame of the English language which holds so many of us imprisoned in a singular ontology, and break the frame of nationality which imposes such arbitrary boundaries on us.

We seek to learn from lifeforms everywhere who are struggling against the World as it is. In our understanding of the planet as a chaotic assemblage of many different worlds, we see the struggles and wisdom of non-human lives as just as important, and just as rich with meaning and lessons for us. We have as much to learn from volcanoes as from each other.
